The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) is investing in a new Parking Guidance System for all parking garages at Orlando International Airport. The addition of a Parking Guidance System in MCO’s garages reaffirms the Aviation Authority’s commitment to passenger satisfaction by providing seamless and efficient connectivity through services, innovation, and technology.
BACKGROUND
The GOAA Board has approved the installation of an Automated Parking Guidance System for all three of MCO’s parking garages (Garages A, B and C) and Terminal Top.
The selected guidance system is similar to those found at Central Florida attractions, hospitals, and many large-hub airports. The camera-based system will provide real-time information about parking availability, with color-coded lights pointing drivers to open parking spots. There will also be digital signage on roadways, garage entry points, and throughout garages showing real-time information about the number of open parking spots available lane by lane.
The new $13.5million parking guidance system is expected to be fully operational in all 4 parking garages at MCO by 2027.
FACTS
- After a design period, installation is expected to begin by mid-2025.
- The parking guidance system will be installed in phases, allowing customers to still access garages.
- Once fully installed, the new system will provide real-time information on approximately 11,000 spaces located throughout MCO’s four parking garages.
There are approximately 23,000 total parking spaces throughout MCO’s campus, including the addition of surface lots Atlantis, Discovery, and Endeavour near the Train Station. Atlantis, Endeavour and Discovery are only accessible with E-Pass and SunPass Plus. SunPass customers must be enrolled with Easy Pay and opted in for parking. A transponder must be used to enter and exit the lots.
The new Consolidated Rental Car Facility (ConRAC) will make an additional 4,500 parking spaces available in the existing garages by 2032. The ConRAC plan is under review for costs and location. It will completely change the way cars are rented at MCO while decreasing curb congestion, preventing circling and increasing safety. It is part of an ongoing commitment to excel in its responsiveness to customer needs.
